Antonio Rudiger

Italian giant Juventus are showing interest in Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The German defender has not extended his contract with the London club, making him available for free and open to negotiate with other teams. In addition, Chelsea are dealing with their own issues that affect their ability to retain players.

The Player and the Fit

Rudiger has been one of the better defenders in football for quite some time now. He’s been a part of a very successful Chelsea run since 2017, including winning the 2021 Champions League. Being a part of German National Team also means a plethora of success and top-end experience.

He’s also quite experienced within Italy. Before playing for Chelsea, Rudiger played for Roma between 2015-2017. Roma were quite successful during that time as well, and were often rivaled by the Juventus domestic dynasty.

Juventus need help in the centre-back department. They’re not weak nor inexperienced there, but ageing. Stars Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are getting no younger. Chiellini is 37-years-old whereas Bonucci is 34-years-old.

Other options for Juventus include Matthijs de Ligt and Daniele Rugani. De Ligt is 22-years-old. He also represents the future of the Juventus back line. The Dutch product isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Rugani is 27-years-old. He’s not spectacular, but a solid depth piece nonetheless with a solid track record of experience.

Rudiger isn’t the youngest player at 29-years-old. With that being said, he’s in the prime of his career and playing excellent football. His potential arrival further bolsters the Juventus defence. In addition, the Italian club need a spark due to recent results. They’re in the midst of somewhat of a domestic struggle, at least compared to years prior. They’re also potentially losing a top player this summer. Rudiger helps solve some current issues.
