Papu Gomez Affirms That His Mind Remains in Sevilla

Since arriving in Seville, it hasn’t been the smoothest of rides for Papu Gomez. The Argentinian international reportedly fell out with Gian Piero Gasperini in his latter months at Atalanta and it was a real shame in truth. This team were everybody’s second favourites across the continent and they were constantly delivering on a domestic front. As per Fabrizio Romano’s report, Gomez has no intention to force a move away from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Papu Gomez to Stay at Sevilla

Gomez Staying Put With Title-Chasing Sevilla

That being said, Gomez was a great servant to that club and when he was in favour, he was a superb player in Bergamo. He is now a Sevilla player and Julen Lopetegui’s men are engrossed in a title race alongside Real Madrid.

Gomez came out and said “I’m not planning to leave Sevilla and come back to Italy – it’s not true. My agent Riso was here just because of my birthday.” In the current society, people are very quick to jump to conclusions online, especially in the sporting world.

How Has he Fared in Spain Thus Far?

Gomez just turned 34 and so may be in the twilight stages of his career, but he still has a lot to offer. He has netted four times in his 1,211 La Liga minutes thus far this term.

The diminutive yet-tricky attacker is part of a fairly concentrated squad, with Anthony Martial and Tecatico Corona arriving in the January window to add to the likes of Gomez, Suso, Lucas Ocampos and Erik Lamela.

Gomez went on to say: “I’m more than happy here, I really enjoy Sevilla” and so he could well play a major part in this title push. Sevilla are four points behind the league-leading Los Blancos whilst being seven points ahead of their city rivals, that currently sit third, Real Betis.
