Contract Will Not be Extended by Exciting Bayern Munich Midfielder

Eintracht Frankfurt Interested

Wenig is another talented product of Bayern Munich but feels his chances of breaking into the the first team are limited. Sport1 has reported the player has told his youth team team mates he will not review his contract which expires this summer. Sport1 stated that;

“The 17-year-old was allowed to train with the professionals in the preparation for the season, but knows about the competition in Julian Nagelsmann’s team.”

A number of teams are said to be interested in the 17 year old with Eintracht Frankfurt currently considered favourites for Wenig’s signature. Wenig was born in Nuremberg and Frankfurt are known for building young talent, especially when they come at no cost to the club. They do not have an under 23 side though and Wenig may still find himself spending more time on the sidelines than he would like.

Bayern Under 19s

Wenig plays as an attacking midfielder for the under 19 side at Bayern Munich and whilst he is one for the future he is struggling to breakthrough with so many player ahead of him. To get into the first team, he would need to displace the likes of Gabriel Vidovic and Armindo Sieb. In the summer of 2021, Bayern extended the contracts of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka as well as signing Marcel Sabitzer and it is not realistic to expect to oust these players any time soon.

Time is very much on the player’s side and if he can get the right move he may find the right place to show his talent on a bigger stage rather than being hidden away from the masses.
