Sam Lammers Close to Signing for Eintracht Frankfurt on Loan

Eintracht Frankfurt are closing in on the signing of Atalanta striker Sam Lammers, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Netherlands striker joined Atalanta in September 2020, although had failed to make an impact, scoring just two Serie A goals. Lammers could help fill the void left by Andre Silva, who left for RB Leipzig earlier in the transfer window.

Lammers Hoping to Get Valuable Game Time in Bundesliga

Since making the move to Atalanta last season, Sam Lammers has struggled to break his way into a striating place. He is well down in the pecking order, with Luis Muriel, Duvan Zapata and Josip Ilicic all preferred, and perhaps trusted more, by manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Since joining from PSV Eindhoven, Lammers has made just 19 appearances for Atalanta. Incredibly, just one of those 19 appearances were in the starting 11. Furthermore, he only scored two goals in an Atalanta side that scores goals for fun.

In a bid to receive regular game time, Lammers is now close to joining Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on loan for the season. Frankfurt are in need of a striker to replace the goals of Andre Silva last season. Silva scored 28 goals for Frankfurt last season, which earned him a move to RB Leipzig.

As per Romano, Frankfurt were also keeping an eye on Carlos Vinicius, who spent last season providing cover for Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur. However, Vinicius is now set to join PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie, the league in which Lammers made a name for himself.

Lammers was himself once a PSV player, spending the entirety of his youth career at the club. He scored six goals for the club but managed even more in a loan spell at Heerenveen in the 2018/19 season. He scored 19 goals in all competitions that season and Frankfurt will hope he can replicate that form this season.
