Serge Aurier Set to Stay at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been contemplating the sale of Serge Aurier throughout the transfer window but it now looks as if the defender will be staying at White Hart Lane, according to The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke.

Tottenham Likely to Keep Serge Aurier at Club

Tottenham Won’t Be Selling Serge Aurier This Summer

The right-back has been linked with a move away from the club for the majority of the summer and with the club closing in on a deal for Emerson Royal, it looked even more likely that he would be shipped out.

However, it now appears that the 28-year old could be set to stay and Spurs and give them a potential back-up option for that area until at least January.

It doesn’t look like they’ll be able to shift the player and means he will stay on and fight for a place in the current side.

Featured Regularly for Spurs

Aurier has been fairly prominent for Tottenham since joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain. With 77 appearances at Spurs to his name, it’s the most games he’s ever played for a side so far in his career.

Last campaign, he was slightly more limited though. With just 19 games, he still managed two goals and three assists but other options were often preferred to him.

This season he is yet to feature and it did look highly likely that he would be sold so that he could find first-team action elsewhere. Instead, the club are preparing for the right-back to remain at the club and he may have to battle for chances in Spurs’ first-team squad instead.

Aurier has also played for Lens and Toulouse in his career and his stint in the Premier League for Tottenham marks the first time he has ventured outside of France in his career – and he has done a decent job so far at White Hart Lane.

For now, it looks like he will have the chance to try and break back into the first-team reckoning at Tottenham.
