Talks Collapse Between Ligue 1 Side and Manchester United Over 29-Year-Old Centre-Back

Manchester United

Ligue 1 side Bordeaux are spending their transfer deadline day attempting to secure a new centre-back. The relegation-threatened side are currently workshopping deals for Manchester United outcast Phil Jones, Andreas Maxso, and Anel Ahmedhodzic, three very different players who could make a big difference to the side.

Ligue 1 Side Bordeaux Linked with Manchester United Man Phil Jones as Well as Maxso & Ahmedhozic on Deadline Day

Phil Jones

News broke recently that Bordeaux were aiming to sign Manchester United’s Phil Jones in a loan deal that would have seen the 29-year-old make the move to France in a bid to find form.  Most recent reports have stated that the deal is off with Jones himself turning down the opportunity due to a lack of assurances over the playing time he can expect in France. The deal is now said to have collapsed, with Jones expected to remain at Old Trafford.

Anel Ahmedhodzic

From out-of-favour veteran to highly sought-after starlet, Anel Ahmedhodzic is in quite a different career state than Jones. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Bordeaux have now completed the signing. The 22-year-old is already a fixture in the Malmo side, having made 12 appearances for the team in the Champions League this year. Ahmedhodzic has drawn interest from a number of top teams around Europe but Bordeaux may beat them all to the punch.

Andreas Maxso

While the club is aiming to get the two aforementioned deals done they are keeping tabs on Andreas Maxso as a potential signing. The 27-year-old is a constant fixture in the Brondby side and made his Denmark debut in November 2020 after impressing at club level. He is a solid passing defender who has a commanding presence. Again Bordeaux have found themselves a solid alternative if their main targets can’t be signed.
