Crucial in the Push for Premier League Survival

The Magpies needed to be productive during the January transfer window in order to stand the best chance of avoiding relegation this season.

They started in a promising manner, adding Kieran Trippier to their ranks in a move that would greatly aid both their attack and defence. Next, Chris Wood was brought in from relegation rivals Burnley after his release clause was activated by Newcastle.

However, since this, the Northern English side have struggled. Many bids have been turned down, while in other cases the player simply isn’t interested in a move to St James’ Park despite the financial compensation on offer.

In the case of Bruno Guimaraes, though, neither of these are true, as the 24-year-old is set to move to Newcastle on a contract that will last until 2026. The midfielder has already signed his paperwork and completed his medical as the Magpies look to bring him to Tyneside as quickly as possible.

Guimaraes will prove a fantastic addition at St James’ Park. He can provide some real quality while playing as a central defensive midfielder, giving the team some creativity from deep. This season he already has six assists despite playing in such a defensive role. This figure would make him the Magpies’ top assister this campaign. The likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson, and Chris Wood will no doubt appreciate the technical and passing prowess that the 24-year-old possesses, he will certainly link up well with Eddie Howe’s top attackers to the delight of fans.
