Edinson Cavani: Manchester United Striker Not of Interest to Barcelona

Edinson Cavani

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is still considered a key member of Ralf Rangnick’s squad, and has not been the subject of any interest from Barcelona.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the La Liga giants have set their sights on signing Spain forward Ferran Torres from Manchester City as they seek a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who recently announced his emotional retirement from the game.

Barcelona Not Interested in Signing Edinson Cavani From Manchester United

Cavani is Expected to Feature Prominently Under Ralf Ragnick

Rumours have been circulating linking Cavani with a move away from Old Trafford ever since the club re-signed Cristiano Ronaldo on deadline day in the summer transfer window.

It was not known whether that deal would relegate Cavani to a place on the fringes of the United first-team, especially with 20-year-old forward Mason Greenwood held in such high regard at the club.

34-year-old Cavani has struggled with injury so far this season, and has only made 8 appearances in all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his interim replacement Ralf Rangnick.

However, the Uruguay international is adored by the Manchester United supporters, who were delighted to see him extend his contract for another year in May. Club staff also seem to share in that enthusiasm, given Cavani’s status as a key player at Old Trafford.

Barcelona Remain Committed to Ferran Torres Signing

While Barcelona are not looking to sign Cavani from Manchester United, Xavi’s side are strongly interested in brining in a forward from another Manchester club.

Ferran Torres has impressed under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City since joining the Sky Blues in August 2020, but has missed large parts of this season after suffering a foot injury.

It is not known whether the current campaign will be Torres’ last in England, given that Barcelona have established the Spaniard as a main transfer target as they look to rebuild under Xavi.

Barça can offer Torres the prospect of a return to his native Spain, where he would be expected to instantly become a key player at the Nou Camp.
