Brahim Diaz Returns for AC Milan

Brahim Diaz

With a tricky run of fixtures coming up, AC Milan will be relieved to welcome back Brahim Diaz after he tested negative for COVID-19. Diaz has missed all the matches since the last international break due to his original positive test. Milan clearly lacked proper playmaking during this time. Diaz’s recovery falls in line at the right time for the Rossoneri, as left-back Theo Hernandez is also eligible to return and Milan face a tough upcoming schedule of matches.

The Absence was Noticeable

Diaz was brought back to Milan after a lively loan stint last season. He played sparingly last, however, due to his place behind Hakan Calhanoglu. After Calhanoglu departed to city rivals Inter Milan, the Rossoneri put all their faith into Diaz.

This remains the correct decision, as Diaz has been nothing short of brilliant. In seven Serie A appearances, Diaz has three goals and an assist. One of those goals include a match-winner off the bench against Spezia, which saved Milan from dropping three points. He’s always involved in attacking movements and kept the flow of the match at a high pace. Whether it’s dazzling passes, dribbling moves, or shots on goal, Diaz is involved. His assist numbers took a hit due to Milan’s injuries, but with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud back, Diaz will thrive.

In the Champions League, Diaz has a goal and an assist in two matches. Milan desperately need him for their upcoming European fixtures if they hope to qualify for the next round. It’s unrealistic to an extent, but the chance for Europa League qualification is very much alive.

Rade Krunic filled the attacking midfielder void for Diaz during his absence. Krunic is a solid player, but most a utility player. He plays multiple positions and performs decently and truly plays with his heart on his sleeve. With that being said, he does not have the same capabilities as Diaz, at least in the attacking department.

Diaz brings life back to the Milan attack. His creativity is second to only Ibrahimovic on this squad. He already is that crucial to this team.
