Midfielder’s Wage Demands Met by Italian Champions

Calhanoglu, who has just been eliminated from Euro 2020 with Turkey, announced the news to TRT Sport and claimed that he will sign his Inter contract tomorrow.

According to reports, Calhanoglu is set to sign a three-year deal with I Nerazzurri and is set for his medical at the club on Tuesday. He is set to receive £4.3 million as well as bonuses, which is significantly more than his current club has offered him.

The 27-year-old joined Milan from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017 and has developed into one of Serie A’s most valuable midfielders in his time at the San Siro. He scored four goals and registered ten assists in Serie A this season

Having impressed particularly since the appointment of manager Stefano Pioli, the Turk sought a significant pay rise from Milan to reward his progression. Milan has a salary policy that the club sticks to, which also saw Gianluigi Donnaruma let his contract with the club expire this summer.

Inter has offered Calahanoglu the wages he feels he has earned despite the policy from the club to lower the team’s wages this summer. The Inter board appear determined to make this happen and forced Antonio Conte to leave the club this summer despite having just been crowned Serie A champions.

Filipo Inzaghi’s side appears to need cover in the attacking midfielder position due to Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening fixture at Euro 2020. The Danish playmaker will need a long period to recover after the life-threatening incident, if he is to ever return to the San Siro pitch.
