Sheffield United have officially announced the signing of Conor Hourihane on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season. The experienced midfielder is the second player to join the Blades on loan this summer.

Hourihane Set to Bolster the Blades Midfield

Conor Hourihane is back in the Championship six months after an impressive spell with Swansea City last season. The Republic of Ireland international had fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park following the arrival of several new signings.

The 30-year-old arrives at Bramall Lane with extensive Championship experience behind his back. Hourihane was an integral part of the Aston Villa side that secured promotion to the Premier League back in 2019. The midfielder has already made close to 150 appearances in the Championship during his spells with Aston Villa, Barnsley and Swansea City.

Hourihane joined Aston Villa in 2017 after an impressive spell with Barnsley. The 30-year-old struggled for minutes last season at Villa Park as he made just five appearances. The lack of minutes saw Hourihane move to Swansea City during last the last January transfer window. During his six months with the Swans, the midfielder made 22 appearances and scored five goals.

Despite an impressive loan spell with Swansea, Hourihane has struggled to break into Aston Villa’s starting line-up this season. The player had not made a single appearance f0r Villa in the Premier League this season.

Speaking to the club’s website, Hourihane said: “I’m delighted to be here and cannot wait to get started. I’ve played against Sheffield United a few times and it is an exciting club to be involved in.

“The manager here has a great reputation in the Championship, his Fulham team beat us in a play-off final a couple of years ago and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
