Axel Tuanzebe Seals Aston Villa Return

Axel Tuanzebe

Aston Villa’s excellent summer recruitment continues with the addition of Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe.

The defender re-joins the side he helped secure promotion to the Premier League in 2019. Tuanzebe returns to Villa Park on a season-long loan having extended his contract at Old Trafford until 2023.

Tuanzebe will add depth to the Villa defence as Dean Smith targets a top six finish this season

Axel Tuanzebe Seals Aston Villa Return

Tuanzebe Begins a Third Loan Spell at Villa Park

The 23 year-old defender is no stranger to the claret and blue side of the second city. He initially joined Villa in January 2018 but his first spell was dominated by injury, limiting him to just five appearances.

However, his second spell was one to saviour as he helped Villa secure promotion to the Premier League. He formed a great partnership with Tyrone Mings and became a major fans favourite. His second loan spell was very productive and he will hope his third is just as successful.

Tuanzebe brings much needed defensive options for Aston Villa. The villains cashed in on Belgian defender Bjorn Engels who joined Royal Antwerp earlier this summer . That left Dean Smith with just three senior centre backs available to him. However, Tuanzebe’s arrival not only adds depth at centre back, but also at right back too, providing extra cover for Matty Cash.

Tuanzebe’s Arrival Continues an Excellent Transfer Window for Dean Smith

While Villa’s transfer window has been dominated by Jack Grealish’s exit, the club’s incoming business has gone under the radar.

Dean Smith has made some serious moves in the transfer window as he looks to take Villa on the next step. Emiliano Buendia’s record breaking move started it off and statements of intent have been made with each signing.

Ashley Young, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings have followed and now the returning Tuanzebe will only enhance the excitement and optimism around the football club. Villa’s business has caught the eye and they are not finished yet.

Replacing Grealish will be the next objective with his move to Manchester City confirmed. Despite his departure, it’s been some transfer window for Villa with European football very much in their sights.
