Hellas Verona Finally End their Pursuit for a Striker

Eusebio Di Francesco had been keen on signing a new striker this summer. Last season saw Verona struggle in front of goal as they finished last season with the sixth-worst goalscoring record in Serie A.

The Verona frontline had an even worse time in front of the goal, scoring just 11 goals between them. It was midfielder Antonin Barak who finished the season as the club’s leading scorer with seven goals. Amongst the forwards, Eddie Salcedo led the pack with three goals but returned to Inter Milan at the end of last season following his dismal spell.

Giovanni Simeone arrives in Verona with a decent goalscoring record. The striker started his career in Argentina with River Plate and moved to Europe in 2016, joining Italian side Genoa.

Simeone had an impressive debut season, scoring 13 goals in 37 appearances. The striker’s impressive performance for Grifone saw Fiorentina sign him in 2017.

He had an even better, career-high, goalscoring season as he finished the 2017/18 season with 14 goals. The striker spent two seasons with La Viola and moved to Cagliari, initially on loan, in 2019.

Simeone continued his decent scoring run as he finished his debut season for Cagliari with 12 goals.

The striker had a bad patch last season but still had a respectful goals tally. Simeone only spent two seasons with Cagliari. During this period, the striker has scored 18 goals in 72 appearances for the club.
