Denis Zakaria is the latest player linked with a move to Italian side Atlanta. La Dea are keen to add the 24-year-old defensive midfielder to their squad and have reportedly made contact with Borussia Monchengladbach. Zakaria is also reportedly one of the targets for Inter Milan, but the Nerazzuri’s financial struggles are likely to hinder any possibilities of signing the Swiss midfielder.

Atalanta are seeking to add the midfielder as their third signing of the season after Juan Musso and Merih Demiral. With Atalanta involved in Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Champions League, they are keen to strengthen their midfield ahead of the hectic schedule.

Zakaria’s Career So Far

Denis Zakaria started his professional career in his native country, Switzerland. The midfielder joined Servette as an eight year old and progressed through their youth academy. He made his professional debut in 2015 and ended the season with six appearances and two goals. The midfielder caught the eye of Swiss giants BSC Young Boys and joined the club in 2015.

He spent two seasons with Young Boys, making 67 appearances and scoring two goals for the club before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017. The defensive midfielder has been a mainstay since his move. He has made over 128 appearances for the club and has nine goals to his name during the last four seasons.

Zakaria is also a Switzerland international and made his debut in 2016. The midfielder has made 34 appearances for the national team and has three goals to his name. He was also part of the Switzerland squad that played in the recently concluded Euro 2020 tournament.
