Hellas Verona have signed left-back Gianluca Frabotta on a season-long loan deal from Juventus. The Gialloblu were a tad light on the left side and had been looking to add a left-back during the transfer window.

Defensive Reinforcement

Gialloblu’s decision to loan Destiny Udogie left Hellas Verona without a recognised left-back in their squad. Federico Dimarco, who played as the left-back last season, returned to Inter Milan at the end of the season following the end of his loan spell.

Frabotta graduated from the Bologna youth academy and spent his first season as a professional on loan in Serie C. It was during his loan spells with third division sides Renate and Pordenone that Frabotta caught the eye of Italian giants Juventus. The Bianconeri signed the defender in 2019 and the Italian full-back quickly became a regular in Juventus’ U23 team.

The left-back made his debut at first-team level last year. The absence of Alex Sandro allowed Frabotta to have a run in the starting lineup during the 2020/21 campaign. The Italian had a decent start but he faded away towards the tail end of the season. Frabotta featured 17 times for the Bianconeri last time out, with the majority of those appearances coming during the first half of the season.

What Gianluca Frabotta Will Bring to the Squad

Gianluca Frabotta is a natural left-back. The Italian arrives at Verona as the only recognised left-back in the squad. The 22-year-old is good with the ball and he has the ability to spray passes and possess and decent passing range.

Frabotta is also very good at reading the game allowing him to intercept passes. He also likes to cross the ball, and playing in 3-5-2 allows him to have more of an offensive approach.

Possessing the ability to get forward and support the play, whilst showing competence in defence, Frabotta is best described as a modern-day full-back.
