Latest Sunderland Transfer Rumours: Former Liverpool Winger Linked

The latest Sunderland transfer round-up looks at the experienced winger and young striker currently being linked with a move to Wearside
Sunderland transfer rumours

With the new season just one week away, Sunderland are desperately trying to strengthen their squad. Several first-team players have left the club this summer and, with just three new signings incoming, Lee Johnson is short on numbers. Here is a look at those currently linked to a move to Wearside in the latest Sunderland transfer rumours.

Latest Sunderland Transfer Rumours: Winger and Striker Linked With Black Cats

Tom Ince Linked With Black Cats

According to Football League World and the Sunderland Echo, former Liverpool and Derby County winger Tom Ince is a target for Sunderland. Currently at Stoke City, it appears that Ince has fallen out of favour and could welcome a move to reignite his career. Having lost Chris Maguire and on-loan winger Jordan Jones this summer, Lee Johnson could be looking to strengthen in the wide areas.

Ince, the son of former England international Paul Ince, could also be attracting interest from other clubs with Ipswich Town also thought to be interested. The much-travelled winger has so far amassed 395 games in all competitions, scoring 87 goals.

Daniel Jebbison in Talks Over Loan Move

Talks are reportedly ongoing with Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison over a loan move to the Stadium of Light. The Sunderland Echo believe that the 18-year-old was in attendance during the Black Cats’ friendly victory over Hull City on Friday night.

The youngster is highly thought of at United but they feel a loan move would be beneficial for him. Should Sunderland be keen to sign Jebbison, they are likely to face stiff competition for his signature. He played four times for the Blades last season in the Premier League, scoring once.

Nottingham Forest Set Asking Price for Sunderland Target

Defender Jordan Gabriel, who is reportedly on Lee Johnson’s radar has been given a £600,000 price tag by his current club Nottingham Forest. Sunderland are desperate for fullbacks following a summer of departures and have had to field central midfielders at right and left-back during pre-season.

According to Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo, Sunderland have held talks with the fullback who spent time on loan at Blackpool last season. However, it appears that the Seasiders are also keen on making his move permanent and could disappoint Lee Johnson in what has been a frustrating transfer window for the Balck Cats head coach.

Sunderland Transfer Rumours: Deal for Liverpool Left-Back is Off

The deal to bring Liverpool left-back Tony Gallacher to the Stadium of Light is now off, according to the Daily Mail. Sunderland looked set to sign the 22-year-old on a free transfer but have now withdrawn from the deal.

It was reported that Liverpool were willing to cut short the player’s contract to allow him to move for free; however, they wanted a sell-on clause inserted into the transfer. Whether this was the reason for the collapse of the deal is not known. However, Lee Johnson’s search for fullbacks continues.
