Atalanta Set to Sign Matteo Lovato
Matteo Lovato Arrives as the Potential Replacement for Cristian Romero
Atalanta have reached an agreement with Hellas Verona to sign Matteo Lovato. The Italian U21 international will move to Bergamo after Hellas Verona accepted an €11 million bid from La Dea. Lovato will be the third player to arrive at the Gewiss Stadium this transfer window.
Lovato is one of the most highly regarded young defenders in Italy. The Italian graduated from Padova and made his debut for the senior team in Serie C during the 2019/20 season. The defender caught the eye of Hellas Verona and joined the Gialloblu a year later. The Italian’s impressive display also caught the eye of the Italian U21 team squad and he was part of the side that lost to Portugal in the quarter-finals of the UEFA U21 Championship.
Lovato made his Serie A debut last season and was a regular in the Hellas Verona first team during the recently concluded season. The defender made 24 appearances for the Italian side as they finished tenth in Serie A.
Tottenham Hotspur Still in the Driving Seat to Sign Cristian Romero
Tottenham Hotspur are still in pole position to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano has refuted claims of Barcelona trying to hijack the deal. Both clubs are still in direct contact with each other over the transfer of the Argentina international. But, disagreements over the transfer fee between the clubs is reportedly one of the reasons for the delay in the transfer.
With Toby Alderweireld leaving Tottenham to join Al-Duhail, Spurs are keen to add the 23-year-old to replace the Belgian international.
