Tottenham Are Only Team in Running for Cristian Romero

Tottenham Have a Long-Standing Interest in Cristian Romero

The Atalanta man has been wanted by Spurs for several weeks and both sides remain in discussions over a deal to send the player to England.

It looked like they might have faced competition from Barcelona to land him but the latest reports claim that the Spanish side are not in the running to try and sign him – meaning Tottenham have a clear run at trying to bring him to the Premier League.

The youngster has only been at Atalanta for a season but continues to impress that much that lots of sides are beginning to sit up and take note of the player and all his performances. After doing well at Genoa, he switched to his current side and it now looks likely that he’ll be about to switch countries after only one season at Atalanta.

Began Career in Argentina

The 23-year old began his career in his native Argentina with Belgrano and after impressing as a teenager, he bagged a move to Europe and the chance to impress on a fresh stage. He has taken that chance with both hands and is standing out as one of the most exciting defenders in Europe.

Romero has proven he is one of the most solid centre-backs in the top five leagues and his stats for pressuring, tackling, interceptions and aerials won all back that up, as he has one of the best records of any defender in those leagues.

With Spurs and new boss Nuno Espírito Santo desperate to try and secure a return to the European places in the 2021/22 campaign, adding such a solid defender to their ranks could go a long way towards doing just that.
