Tottenham Hotspur in Talks Over Atalanta Duo

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in advanced talks over the signing of Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero and goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.

According to football.london’s Alasdair Gold, Spurs’ new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, is heavily involved in the negotiations, having held talks with the Serie A side over both players.

Duo Crucial to Serie A Side’s European Qualification

In last season’s Serie A, Atalanta once again succeeded in establishing themselves as one of Italian football’s leading clubs. Gian Piero Gasperini led the side to a third-place finish in the league table, behind only the two Milan clubs and ahead of deposed champions Juventus on goal difference.

As a result, Atalanta will once again be playing Champions League football next season, having made a surprise run to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition in 2019/20.

Both Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini have played crucial roles in their team’s recent success. Argentina defender Romero is a first-choice centre-back at the club and made 42 appearances last season. The 23-year-old, who recently won the Copa America with his national team, also registered an impressive three goals and five assists from central defence.

Italian goalkeeper Gollini also impressed for Atalanta last season. The 26-year-old overcame cruciate ligament injury troubles at the start of the campaign to make 25 Serie A appearances, keeping ten clean sheets.

Nuno Espirito Santo Bullish Over Harry Kane Future

While Spurs are setting about on improving in the defensive third ahead of the new season, huge questions remain over the future of striker Harry Kane at the other end of the pitch.

Kane has hinted that he sees himself playing for a different club at the start of the season, but new manager Nuno Espirito Santo has told the media otherwise.

Addressing the England captain’s future, the Portuguese manager said: “Harry is our player. Period. No need to talk about anything else; I am looking forward to him joining the group.”

Kane is currently on holiday following his exploits in helping England to the final of this summer’s European Championships.
