Aaron Ramsey Barcelona Swap Deal Off

Aaron Ramsey

The Aaron Ramsey Barcelona swap deal that has been reported is now looking dead in the water, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Aaron Ramsey Will Not Be Joining Barcelona

Miralem Pjanic Staying Put

Miralem Pjanic has been said to be keen on a move back to Juventus during the summer transfer window, with the Italian club wanting to strengthen their midfield.

However, Romano now states that no solution has been able to be reached for his departure. Pjanic only joined the Catalan giants in 2020 but failed to impress Ronald Koeman, making just 19 appearances in La Liga with game time almost drying up in the second half of the season.

He joined as part of a swap deal with Arthur but the 31-year-old has found his move difficult.

Salary Cap

One reason that Ramsey heading to the Nou Camp would be problematic is due to his high wages, and although yet to be confirmed, Barcelona may still be hit with an embargo for signing new players due to a potential salary cap, which would leave Ramsey out of their reaches.

The salary issues are already having an impact at the club with new players Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia unable to be officially registered until the issues are resolved, and it is currently leaving the club in a very difficult position.

Lionel Messi has signed a new five-year deal but he has taken a 50% pay cut to try and ease the burden and now they need to get players off the wage bill to ensure new signings can be registered.

Aaron Ramsey

Ramsey joined Juventus in 2019 and in the 2020/21 season made 30 appearances in all competitions but rarely completed 90 minutes as injuries that have blighted much of his career robbed him of consistent match fitness.

As it stands it looks neither Pjanic nor Ramsey will be swapping clubs in this transfer window.
