Nottingham Forest are nearing the arrival of their first summer signing with winger Philip Zinckernagel soon to join the Reds.

Nottingham Forest Close In on Philip Zinckernagel Deal

Midfielder to Join Reds on Season-Long Loan Deal

Chris Hughton could finally land his first signing of the summer with Philip Zinckernagel nearing a move to the City Ground.

The Reds’ boss is yet to attract any additions to the East Midlands but has been reported to be interested in several options.

Their first arrival looks to be in the form of Zinckernagel, with the right-winger set to join Forest on a loan deal for the season according to John Percy of the Telegraph.

Forest lacked attacking intuition last season and finished the campaign with the joint-lowest number of goals scored.

Lewis Grabban ended the season top-scorer with six goals to his name, Lyle Taylor (4), James Garner (4), Alex Mighten (3), Sammy Ameobi (3), and Ryan Yates (2) follow.

It is no surprise, therefore, that the Reds are looking for attacking reinforcements to bolster their options in the final third.

A loan move to Forest will benefit all parties involved. Zinkernagel joined Watford in the January transfer window but has struggled for regular game time at Vicarage Road.

The right-sided winger made 20 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring once and contributing five assists, but had just one league start.

Departing Watford for Forest, therefore, even on a temporary basis, will give him a new home in which he would hope to be playing regular football.

Forest have only one out-and-out right-winger on their books currently in Joe Lolley.

Alex Mighten is a possible option on the right flank in addition to Brennan Johnson, who recently returned from an enjoyable loan spell at Lincoln City, but the duo are more likely to be used on the left side.

Forest Make Second Bid For Midfielder Zian Flemming

The creative energy provided by James Garner in the latter half of last season has left a hole in Forest’s midfield options.

In an attempt to plug that gap, Chris Hughton is seeking the services of Dutch midfielder Zian Flemming.

The Reds have already had one bid reportedly rejected for the Fortuna Sittard star but Forest will hope to have better luck with their second attempt.
