New Raheem Sterling Contract to Be Discussed After Euro 2020

Raheem Sterling Contract

A new Raheem Sterling contract is to be discussed following the conclusion of the delayed Euro 2020 championships according to The Telegraph. The 2020/21 season was far from Sterling’s best for Premier League title winners Manchester City but he is still seen as an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Mixed Campaign

Sterling scored 14 goals and contributed 12 assists from 49 appearances for City as they reclaimed the Premier League crown from Liverpool. Sterling was a regular starter for City in the Premier League but, in the knockout stages of the Champions League, it was Phil Foden who was Guardiola’s preferred choice.

It was therefore a surprise that Sterling started in the final but he did not deliver and was eventually replaced.

Tottenham Talk

Sterling currently has two years left on his City contract but there has been some talk of the player being used as a make weight in any attempts to bring Harry Kane to the club from Tottenham Hotspur with reportedly Kane indicating he wants to leave North London in an attempt to win the silverware.

Sterling, however, would prefer to stay and fight for his place in the team and City are said to be wiling to offer him a longer term deal after the Euro’s, where Sterling scored England’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Croatia in the opening group match at Wembley Stadium.

Raheem Sterling Deserves New Contract Despite Dip in Form

It is testament to Sterling’s ability that he scored 26 goals in all competitions last season despite not being considered to have been at his best for much of it. The former Liverpool man is still one of the best and most dangerous wingers in the Premier League. His movement is superb; dribbling, scary for any defender to face, and speed a nightmare to control.

At times, his end product can let him down, but that does not mean Sterling is a player unworthy of the Manchester City shirt.
