As the 2020/21 season comes to an end, many Championship players will be wondering whether their contracts will be extended or whether they will become free agents.
160 Championship Players Who May Be Released This Summer
Players Need to Make Strong Claim for New Contract
More than 100 players are to become Championship free agents following the conclusion of the season. With the usual contract expiration date being late June, this summer could see a huge number of individuals become available within the Championship.
Promoted sides Norwich City and Watford could lose Alexander Tettey and Troy Deeney respectively. Sheffield Wednesday, who were denied survival on the final day by Derby County, could lose up to 18 players this summer – including Adam Reach and Jordan Rhodes.
Whilst some of the older players may already be exploring opportunities in coaching or punditry, such as Michael Dawson and Adebayo Akinfenwa, others may be looking for a new club for the next chapter in their career.
