Morgan Sanson Completes Aston Villa Move

Sanson Villa

Aston Villa have officially completed the signing of Morgan Sanson from Marseille for a fee of £14 million which could rise to £15.5 million with add ons.

The deal is Dean Smith’s first over the line this month as he looks to guide his side to the most unexpected of European pushes.

The midfielder arrives following the departure of the greatly admired Conor Hourihane, who left on loan to Swansea City for the rest of the season.

Dean Smith will be hoping that Sanson adds the extra class needed to the Villa midfield to pull off what would be the upset of the season.

Sanson Completes Villa Move

Villa Building European-Worthy Midfield

With options such as Douglas Luiz, Ross Barkley and John McGinn already available, one could argue that there was no need for Villa to strengthen in midfield.

Yet, here Sanson is- ready to challenge for a place. The Frenchman arrives in quite possibly one of the most astute midfield trios in the Premier League this season, and will only add to the quality already in abundance.

He’ll have to fight for a place, yes, but this will only excite Villa fans with the arrival of Sanson further evidence of their progression.

The fact is, in the space of a year, those at Villa Park have gone from relegation-threatened to European bound. The job Dean Smith has done is remarkable, as is the recruitment team, to potentially awaken a sleeping giant.

Squad Depth Newfound Key

As previously alluded, Sanson’s arrival adds much-needed depth to the squad; something any team needs when attempting European qualification. In such a tightly contested season, too, the former Marseille man could prove to be a pivotal addition to the Villa ranks.

The Frenchman brings experience, whilst also still being in his prime. And, for £14 million, should prove to be a bargain buy.
