Sevilla Pushing to Sign Papu Gomez

Gomez Sevilla

According to Fabrizio Romano, La Liga side Sevilla are pushing to sign want-away Atalanta playmaker Papu Gomez. The 32-year-old Argentine is reportedly unhappy at the Italian club and wants to leave- whether it be this month or in the summer.

As stated by Romano, Atalanta would prefer to sell outside of Italy and the Serie A- making Sevilla a realistic option for all parties involved.

As for Sevilla, who are currently fifth in La Liga, they’ll be keen to add the creativity a player of Gomez’ capabilities possesses to propel them into next season’s Champions League competition.

A Deal That Suits All Parties

With Atalanta reportedly unwilling to sell to fellow Serie A clubs, and Gomez in the position to play on Europe’s biggest stage, a move to Sevilla makes sense for all parties involved.

With the midfielder approaching 33, too, the Spaniards may be able to make a cut-price deal for a player many would value amongst the best creators in European football.

Just last season, Gomez played a crucial part in Atalanta’s famous Champions League run- which took them to the quarter-final stage before exiting to eventual finalists Paris Saint-Germain. And, now, it looks increasingly likely that we’ll be seeing the Argentine showcase his talents elsewhere.

Big Loss for Atalanta

The situation between the veteran creator and Atalanta looks unlikely to resolve. The club captain looks destined to leave- whether it is this month or the summer- and will be a major loss for the Italian side, who currently sit fifth in the Serie A.

So far this season, Gomez has featured 16 times in which he has registered five goals and four assists in the process. His attacking capabilities are there for all to admire. Now, it seems as though it could be those in Sevilla with the chance to watch on in admiration.
