REPORT: Mauricio Pochettino Hoping Kylian Mbappe Signs New Contract

Mbappe contract

New Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly hoping that star forward Kylian Mbappe puts pen to paper on a new contract at the club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Pochettino’s main priority is to tie down both Neymar and Mbappe to new contracts, with the latter’s set to expire in June of 2022.

Both players are crucial to any kind of PSG success in both the present and future- especially if the French club want to become serious challengers for the Champions League trophy.

Pochettino Hoping Mbappe Signs New Contract

Mbappe the Key

The term ‘generational talent’ gets thrown around a lot these days when, the fact is, it only applies to few in the football world. And one of those few is Kylian Mbappe.

At 22, the Frenchman has already starred in the World Cup, securing a winners medal in the process, and scored over 100 goals for PSG. He is the next generations’ poster boy; the player clubs will be desperate to acquire. And that is why PSG must make it a priority to keep him.

Should Pochettino convince Mbappe to sign a new contract, he’ll be securing his own long-term future at the club in the process. We’ve seen the former Spurs manager work wonders with the likes of Jay Rodriguez at Southampton. Now imagine what he could do with world-class talents such as Mbappe.

With the bigger job will come the greater pressure to succeed, yes, but Pochettino is more than capable of leading PSG into a new era. First, however, he must ensure the stay of Kylian Mbappe.

As the Ligue 1 season progresses, we’ll undoubtedly see PSG take their usual place at the top- that is almost a guarantee no matter who takes to the technical area.

Instead, it will be in February in the Champions League against Barcelona when we’ll truly see the progression of Pochettino’s Paris side.
