Football Transfer Rumours: Milik Too Expensive for Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid in Search of a Striker

The Rojiblancos’ search for a striker continues. The Spanish giants had been linked with a move to wantaway Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, but €15 million price tag has seen Atletico looking for other options. The Spanish giants have recently terminated the contract of Diego Costa on a mutual agreement. The Spaniard had struggled for playing time following the arrival of Luis Suarez earlier in the summer.

Costa is the third striker to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this season following the moves of Alvaro Morata and Nikola Kalinic in the summer. The sudden lack of depth in the striker department has seen Atletico Madrid left with just two natural strikers – Suarez and Ivan Saponjic.

Where Next for Arkadiusz Milik?

Milik has not had a single minute of top-level football since the start of this season. The Polish international had almost secured a move out of Naples in the summer. But, a move failed to materialize despite the player accepting several offers from different clubs.

The striker had opened up about his situation in Naples earlier in October during an interview with SportweFakty.

He said: “Napoli wanted to extend my contract for five years and gave me two choices: to sign or leave. I decided that I would like to try something else. I think this is the right time to try a new challenge.

“There has never been hostility on my part towards Napoli. I wanted to solve everything professionally. I have great respect for the club, the fans, I spent four wonderful years in Naples. That’s what I decided. Right or wrong, but it’s my decision.”

Milik, who is a free agent at the end of this season, is reportedly high on the wishlist of several clubs. At just 26-years-old, the striker is just entering into the prime of his career.
