REPORT: Danny Ings Set to Commit Long-Term Future With Southampton

Danny Ings Finish

Danny Ings is near to signing a new long-term contract with Southampton, according to David Ornstein of the Athletic. It seems that that the 28-year-old, who was central to speculation over the transfer window, will commit to the Saints in the coming days.

The England international has carried last season’s impeccable goal-scoring record into this season, netting five times already for club and country. He will be looking to improve on his 22 goals last season, that saw him narrowly miss out on the golden boot.

Danny Ings Nearing Long-Term Contract Signature at Southampton

Southampton Ready to Talk Business with Spurs Interest Cooling for Danny Ings

After a very successful 2019/20 campaign, Danny Ings sparked the interest of a number of clubs. However, it was Tottenham who were particularly keen. The Lilywhites had placed a bid on the English frontman, but were unsuccessful in landing him.  The addition of Carlos Vinicius and with Gareth Bale returning from Real Madrid, it seems that Spurs are now well-stocked in the attacking third. Subsequently, it seems that Tottenham will not revisit their summer transfer target in January.

Additionally, Tottenham’s interest never phased Southampton, with the Saints adamant that they were keeping the 28-year-old. This was further emphasised by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, stating that Ings had ‘zero interest’ of departing during the summer.

News That Would Top Off an Excellent Weekend

When Timo Werner scored his first two goals in the Premier League on Saturday, as Chelsea raced into a two-goal lead on Saturday, not many would have expected Southampton to get anything out of the game. However, an excellent and spirited fightback, ensured a point.

A 43rd minute goal from Danny Ings started the scoring off for the Saints, before Che Adams levelled the scoring. Chelsea then regained their advantage, when Kai Havertz scored on 59 minutes. However, Jannik Vestergaard‘s injury-time header rescued a point for the travelling Saints.
