Norwich City midfielder Onel Hernandez will be out of action for 10 to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery on an adductor injury, the club have confirmed.

Norwich could be without Hernandez for up to three months after his injury required surgery.

Per the club’s website, Hernandez had “a successful minor operation” and “will now work his way back to full fitness under the guidance of the club’s medical and sports science staff.”

His absence will be a blow for Norwich boss Daniel Farke, who has named the 27-year-old in his starting line-up in every Championship game of the 2020/21 season so far.

Hernandez is yet to get on the scoresheet this season, which he will be desperate to do when he returns to full fitness, having not scored for the Canaries since he netted in a 2-1 loss at Watford in July. In what turned out to be a miserable 2019/20 campaign for Norwich in the Premier League, Hernandez scored twice in 26 top-flight appearances.

On their return to the Championship, Norwich have endured a sluggish start. Winning only one of their first four games, they currently sit in 17th place, four points above the relegation zone.

Farke will be hopeful that the Cuba international makes a speedy recovery as his side have struggled for goals, scoring only three times in their first four matches.

Since joining the Canaries from German side Braunschweig in 2018, Hernandez has made 89 appearances for the club.

He has become somewhat of a fan favourite at the club, after expressing his love for the catalogue retailer Argos, subsequently hosting a signing event at their Norwich branch in March 2019.

On the pitch, Norwich will be hoping to hit the ground running after the conclusion of the latest international break. Their return to action sees them travel to face Rotherham United on Saturday.
