Charlton Confirm Shinnie

Addicks manager Lee Bowyer expressed his desire to sign a striker and a midfielder before the domestic transfer deadline

Charlton have lost a number of key players recently. Former first-team regulars Macauley Bonne, Naby Sarr and talisman Lyle Taylor all left the South London club.

However, Shinnie will provide plenty of experience as the Addicks look to gain promotion back to the Championship this season. He is the club’s tenth signing of the window and joins the likes of veteran Ben Watson and Marcus Maddison.

Shinnie made nearly 100 Championship appearances throughout his career. He was a regular in Birmingham City’s midfield between 2013 and 2015 and has won ten caps for Scotland.

The 31-year-old joined Luton in 2018 from Birmingham. Shinnie played a key role in the Hatters’ back-to-back promotions between 2017 and 2019. In the 2018/19 season, he scored four goals and provided six assists in the club’s promotion season from League One.

New Opportunity for Shinnie

Shinnie has rarely been used by Nathan Jones. Since the Welsh coach returned to Luton. The Scot has only featured twice and has not been named in three of the Hatters’ matchday Championship squads this season.

Jones is overloaded with midfielders at Kenilworth Road this season. Luke Berry, Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Glen Rea have all becoming regulars in the Hatters’ midfield.

As a result, Jones explained how Shinnie may have to depart the club this season to make way for the Luton midfield.

But, Shinnie will hope to make an impression at The Valley this season after falling down the pecking order at Kenilworth Road.
