Championship duo Reading and Bournemouth are interested in Atletico Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme, according to Sky Sports. The 20-year-old winger is an exciting talent but is expected to struggle for game-time under Diego Simeone.

After three games, Reading and Bournemouth find themselves second and fourth respectively. It seems that both clubs will be pushing for promotion and the signing of Riquelme would increase competition for places.

Atletico Madrid Winger Wanted by Reading and Bournemouth

Bournemouth Among Championship Duo To Battle It Out for Riquelme

Reading’s perfect start to the season has come to a surprise to most.

After a mediocre 2019-20 campaign, the Royals have only signed Ovie Ejaria from Liverpool – A player that spent the season at the Madejski last season.

Whether the club makes a move for the Spanish winger remains unseen, but the club has reportedly been interested for a while.

Bournemouth have only recently become interested in Riquelme, but with their out-going business generating significant funds, the Cherries could swoop in with a lucrative deal.

The club have already sold Nathan Ake to Manchester City for £41 million, whilst Callum Wilson‘s move to Newcastle made an additional £20 million.

The futures of David Brooks and Joshua King are also uncertain. The pair are subject to Premier League Interest and could depart before the window shuts on October 6th.

A Risky Move but a Massive Potential Reward

It would appear that a big-money move for Riquelme would be seen as a big risk.

The 20-year-old has made one first-team appearance in the cup and has spent most of his time with Atletico Madrid B.

However, with great risk often comes great reward. With significant game-time in the Championship, it will be a massive learning curve for Riquelme.

Gaining experience abroad as a young player has benefitted several players on their way to the top.
