Swap Rangers for Bristol City

The former Reds captain is currently enjoying his first taste of senior management with Scottish side Rangers.

Gerrard was announced as the new manager to the Glasgow club in May 2018 before taking over a month later.

Rangers finished the season second, behind arch-rivals Celtic, in Gerrard’s first year in charge.

The Scottish side finished second again this year and, despite having struggled to push Celtic for top spot, Gerrard has been linked with a move back to England.

According to the Sunday Express, Gerrard has been placed on a hit list of targets for the Bristol City job.

They claim that ambitious billionaire owner Steve Lansdown has drawn together a list of names who could take the Robins to the Premier League.

Bristol City are searching for a new boss after Lee Johnson was sacked following a run of nine winless matches.

City acted swiftly to remove Johnson after last weekend’s defeat to Cardiff City.

The poor form has virtually ruled out any chance of the Robins making the Championship play-offs.

Mark Ashton, City’s chief executive, said: “We recognise the huge amount of work that Lee has put in over the last four and a half years to move this club forward and we thank him for all his efforts.

“There have been some special moments over those years and Lee has played a significant part in them.

“However, success in football is ultimately judged by results and league position and the board believes that a change of management is needed now for Bristol City.”

Alternative names linked to the vacant role include Chris Hughton, Lee Bowyer and Ryan Lowe.
