‘Unaware of the Late Equaliser’

The Reds had led at Pride Park through Joe Lolley’s 12th-minute strike.

But the drama and entertainment arrived in stoppage time when Marty Waghorn was sent off, and Chris Martin netted a late leveller.

A rash challenge on Ryan Yates gave referee Darren England no option but to send Waghorn off in the fifth minute of added-on time.

Moments later, a clumsy foul by Joe Worrall allowed Wayne Rooney to deliver a pinpoint freekick into the penalty area. Brice Samba failed to punch the danger away as Martin bundled the ball over the line.

But with the equaliser coming so late, one supporter thought Forest had sealed victory.

British Transport Police tweeted the unfortunate actions, which has since received nearly 2,000 retweets.

The force tweeted: “Officers attended a report of persons in the canal opposite Nottingham station. A Forest fan had jumped in to celebrate a win over local rivals, unaware of the late equaliser #wounded”

Forest Rue ‘Frustrating’ Draw

Forest are no strangers to conceding late goals; in their immediate return, after a three-month break due to coronavirus, the Reds conceded a stoppage-time equaliser at Sheffield Wednesday.

Nottingham Forest remain in the play-offs but, had they held on for victory, they would be nine points clear of seventh.

Speaking afterwards, assistant coach Bruno Baltazar said the manner in which they dropped points was “frustrating”.

“It is a frustrating result for us,” he said. “We had a plan at the beginning of the game, like always, to play against a very specific opponent like Derby, with interesting dynamics.

“We stuck to the plan until the 96th or 97th minute, but unfortunately we didn’t manage to hold the score and hold the three points until the end.

“It is not the first time this season, so we need to work on that – about concentration and focus in the last minutes of the game.

“It is a frustrating draw.”
