AZ Alkmaar Talisman Linked with Move to Premier League

Boadu the Young Superstar to Replace the Aging Aubameyang?

Myron Boadu has had a breakthrough season in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar. He has scored 18 goals in 32 games, as well as grabbing ten assists.

Voetbal International states that the 19-year-old has joined a long shortlist of names that could replace Aubameyang if he were to leave in the summer. The Gabon international is expected to leave the club after stalled contract talks. Furthermore, he has only a year remaining on his current deal.

Already a full Netherlands international, Boadu has made waves throughout the Dutch footballing world. However, now Arsenal are interested in bringing him to the club for a second time.

Yes, a second time. This is not the first time the Gunners have been linked with Boadu.

Boadu Had Already Rejected Arsenal in the Past

In December, Myron Boadu revealed that he had rejected the chance to join Arsenal a few years ago. His goal, at the time, was to pursue first-team Eredivisie football.

Now that he has done that, he’s received much praise due to his impressive record.

“He is so cool in front of goal and so dangerous from deep,” Netherlands Under-21 coach Erwin van de Looi said. “He has that ability to just score, that is really a talent.”

An article from Goal.com reports statements from Boadu: “I’m playing in the first team now. I don’t know if that would have been the case at Arsenal.

“I would have been facing boys of my own age, which didn’t appeal to me. I never regretted rejecting those clubs.”

Even though he rejected the club years ago, there is a chance he may still be hesitant to go to the Emirates Stadium. The club have many players in his position and of a similar age too. It’d take a lot of convincing to get Boadu to join.

Would Boadu be a Smart Signing for Arsenal?

Boadu wouldn’t be extremely expensive but in today’s market, AZ could easily put a £30 million price tag on him. Even if Arsenal were to fork out the cash, would it be a good idea?

The Gunners already have the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah who can play striker and have already featured a good amount despite competition from the main man, Aubameyang.

The signing would be a good one in terms of a proven prolific European goalscorer, but it might just halt the process of two of Arsenal’s biggest prospects.
