Lucas Torreira Could Recover from Injury Before End of Season

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira may be able to return to the starting lineup before the season concludes. Dr Rajpal Bar suggests that the Uruguayan international’s injury has been recovering well. Plus, due to the COVID-19 delay of the Premier League, he could return well before the end of the suspended season. The season is to potentially be resumed in June or July.

Uruguay Midfielder Originally Ruled Out for Rest of Season

Torreira suffered a fractured ankle in the FA Cup tie against Portsmouth. Arsenal eventually came out with a win.

The injury was going to have him miss the rest of the season. This season is crucial for Arsenal as they need all their starting players present to up their chances of European football via either the Premier League or the FA Cup.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping the world, none of that football can be played. Considering the 24-year-old was to not play a single minute of Arsenal football this season after the injury, he now has a chance to return in time to finish out the season.

This could prove immensely beneficial to the Gunners. The centre-defensive-midfielder has been a regular fixture for Arsenal this season. He has made 33 appearances – 21 of those being starts – in all competitions this season. In the Premier League, he has scored one goal and one assist in 24 matches.

Doctor’s Own Words on Torreira’s Injury

Dr Rajpal Bar has given an update on Lucas Torreira on his own YouTube channel.

He stated in a video, “In the following weeks, Lucas will continue to undergo regularly scheduled CT scans to assess fracture healing. Torreira’s ankle will remain in a CAM boot until the bone is healed with physio focusing on mobility, strength, and fitness.

“Prior to the delay of the Premier League season, it was very likely that Torreira’s season was over. Now, if the season does return, which it sounds like the FA is focused on doing, Lucas could potentially be ready by mid-May.”

This is fantastic news for the North Londoners’ as the Premier League side look to continue their push for European qualification.
