Everton Manager Shortlist: Toffees Must Hire Permanent Solution

The search for a new manager has started. Everton have invested a lot of money into their squad and need to find a manager that can realise its potential.

Duncan Ferguson celebrated in style as Everton beat Chelsea 3-1 at Goodison Park but a permanent Everton manager needs to be found.

Everton Manager Shortlist: Toffees Must Hire Soon

Marco Silva was finally sacked as Everton manager. Managerless and with a game against Chelsea coming up, nobody gave the Toffees much of a chance against Frank Lampard‘s youthful side. Squad strength aside, Everton’s woeful form indicated a tough ninety minutes ahead. In fact, it would have taken a season-best performance to claim all three points.

A legend among Everton fans, Ferguson beamed with enthusiasm on the touch-line. The 47-year-old has no managerial experience and will be learning on the job as he attempts to steady the ship. What Duncan Ferguson lacks in experience he more than makes up for in passion. A warrior, leader, and disciplinarian, Ferguson will demand that his players work hard. Watching the caretaker manager celebrate with the ball-boys was a universal, feelgood moment. It was a showcase of what Everton FC means to those fans. Whilst it was not a great football showcase, the team showed heart.

Everton Need a Manager Sooner Than Later

There is no doubt that Everton will need a more experienced manager sooner rather than later. Even if Everton improve under Duncan Ferguson’s rule, the ambitious board are eyeing top targets. Recently out of work Unai Emery is a surprise candidate (Sky Sports News), alongside David Moyes, Carlo Ancelotti, and Marcelo Gallardo (The Mail Online, Kishan Vaghela). Everton have spent too much money to risk relegation. Immediate stability is needed, yes. But somewhat, more importantly, the new manager will need to fulfil the potential of the recent transfer investments.

There is visible potential in the squad. Richarlison is an exciting prospect, Moise Kean is projected to become a star, and there are many more solid players to build around. The line-up against Chelsea shows real promise, but, without a top manager, it will be extremely difficult for Everton to keep hold of their young stars.

Moyes Keen on Return but Ancelotti Favoured by Fans

David Moyes and Carlo Ancelotti are the favoured options. Moyes, who enjoyed a successful 11-year spell with Everton, has been looking to revive his reputation after uninspiring stints with Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham. The BBC have reported the possible return to the club. Some Everton fans have reservations about reinstating Moyes and would prefer to be more ambitious in the search for a new manager.

Carlo Ancelotti is the most recent name to be mentioned after being sacked from Napoli. This is according to the Mail Online via Dominic King and Daniel Davis. The sacking comes after a dip in form However, Ancelotti’s resume is glittering. If Everton manages to convince him to accept the job it would be regarded as a coup. Although, it is unlikely that Carlo Ancelotti would accept the offer so soon after being removed from Napoli. One thing is for certain, the project at Everton will not be an easy one but with the current players, it could be a gamble worth taking.
