The Champions League is back and although Arsenal are languishing in the Europa League, their scouts are looking all over the world of football for the next crop of talent. That includes Red Bull Salzburg pair Dominik Szoboszlai and Erling Haaland.
The two made headlines on Tuesday as they helped their side to a 6-2 thrashing of Genk. The duo both made the score sheet in their club’s first Champions League match in 25 years.
Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Gunners Want Dominik Szoboszlai and Erling Haaland
According to James Benge of Football.london, Arsenal had already contacted Salzburg about Dominik Szoboszlai over the summer. The 18-year-old Hungarian playmaker also garnered interest from the likes of Juventus and AC Milan.
Due to the player’s age, he is keen to gain more experience in Austria before moving on to a top side. Szoboszlai has previously said that he has been compared to other midfield sensations,
“A lot of people say that my style of play is close to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic [of Lazio] and Toni Kroos [of Real Madrid]. It is a great thing to hear that.”
19-year-old striker Erling Haaland has also been scouted by the Gunners in the past. He has gotten even more attention at the start of this season, however, as he has been on red-hot form.
Haaland already has 11 goals in just seven Austrian Bundesliga matches and 17 strikes in only nine games across all competitions.
While Arsenal are keen on both players, there is still lots of work to do. First and foremost, the Gunners will need to decide just how badly they want either player. Szoboszlai, for example, is a terrific prospect at attacking midfield.
However, Arsenal already have a few good young players at the position including Joe Willock and Emile Smith Rowe. That is in addition to the possibility that Dani Ceballos could yet make his move permanent, although there is no guarantee in his loan deal.
Then, of course, if Haaland should join the club, one Eddie Nketiah would find minutes harder to come by. No doubt the club are interested in both players, but time will tell if either joins the club.
