Franck Ribéry – Career So Far

Every football fan knows about Franck Ribéry. The Frenchman is famous all over the world. He is regarded as one of the best French players of his generation. His career started in 1989 as a youth player for his hometown club of Conti Boulogne. Ribéry played for Boulogne, Alès, Brest, Metz, Galatasaray and Marseille before making the career-defining move to Bayern Munich in 2007. He won the Champions League and numerous Bundesliga titles at Bayern Munich. In fact, with nine Bundesliga titles, Ribéry is Bundesliga’s all-time record champion. He has also appeared in eight DFB-Pokal finals. No one has as many final appearances. In total, Ribéry won 24 trophies with Bayern Munich-a club record.

Ribéry has won many individual awards as well. He was named in 3rd place in the Ballon d’Or voting in 2013. Ribéry also made 81 appearances for Les Bleus and has a World Cup runners-up medal.

How Will He Fare at His New Club?

It is a massive signing for Fiorentina. Ribéry is 36-years-old now but still is a big name in world football. Fiorentina do not normally get to buy such a big name player. Ribéry will be loved by everyone in Florence. He was greeted by hundreds of Fiorentina fans at the airport. New owner, Italian-American businessman Rocco B. Commisso, promised to grow the Fiorentina brand and the acquisition of Ribéry will definitely do that.

He brings a wealth of experience that Fiorentina have been so sorely lacking in the recent past. Ribéry featured quite a lot for Bayern Munich last season so he still has plenty to offer on the pitch as well. However, this signing could be the start of a new era for Fiorentina. The mere presence of a player like Ribéry will attract quality players to Fiorentina.
