Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama is rumoured to be on his way out of the club, according to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider. Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and new signing Tanguy Ndombele are all ahead of Wanyama and he wants his agent to find him an escape route in the coming days.

In 2016, the Kenyan international was a key part of the Spurs team forging a formidable pairing with the now departed Moussa Dembele. Injuries have since blighted his progress and Football Insider now reports that his Tottenham days are numbered.

Knee Injury

The knee injury that Victor Wanyama picked up after the 2016/17 season has never seemed to fully dissipate. There have been comebacks but he has never quite looked the player that was so influential in Spurs highest Premier League points tally and second-place finish.

Remaining Contract

Wanyama still has two years remaining on his Spurs contract and the club don’t want to lose the player on the cheap. Bournemouth had shown interest in the player in the summer transfer window but decided on other options instead.

Options

With only a few days now remaining in the European transfer window, time is running out for Wanyama. The most likely option may be similar to the one that saw Giovani Lo Celso join Tottenham on deadline day. A season long loan with a clause that the club have to buy the player assuming they play a specific number of games at their loan club.

At 28, Victor Wanyama still has plenty left in the tank but his fitness will be a key factor in whether clubs are willing to take the risk and sign him on a permanent basis. His Tottenham career certainly looks to be coming to a close having been left out of the matchday squad for both of Spurs opening games.
