Tottenham Hotspur have signed left back Ryan Sessegnon on a long term contract for £25 million plus £5 million add-ons Fulham.

Career So Far

Throughout his football career, Ryan Sessegnon has played for Fulham in the EFL Championship and the Premier League, while also appearing for the England youth teams. He signed for Fulham in 2008 at the age of eight, signing for the Cottagers’ senior team eight years later in 2016. During his time with Fulham, Sessegnon scored 25 goals in all competitions. His best season was 2017/18 where he scored 16 goals.

Called up for the England youth team, he scored a goal in the U19’s victory over Luxembourg. During the Euro U19 finals in 2017, he scored three goals, two of which came in the victory over the old enemy Germany, who were beaten 4-1.

During the 2018/19 season with Fulham in the Premier League, he scored two goals in his 30 appearances and had six assists.

What This Means For The Future

At 18, Sessegnon will relish the opportunity to remain in the top flight of English football after Fulham were relegated. Moving to Spurs makes sense for the youngster, as it guarantees Premier League football for the next few years.

Although short on goals, Sessegnon is not short on confidence. Making the move from Fulham to Spurs is a fantastic opportunity for the youngster. He can increase his top-flight experience amongst a well-established team.

The move also gives Spurs more options in the left back and left wing positions. With injuries, an issue Tottenham have been sensible in bringing in the youngster. Hunger to play, and confidence around the pitch, surely will help Spurs maintain or even improve their position in the Premier League.
