Kieran Tierney – Career So Far

The Scottish Left-back has been with Celtic since he was seven. Tierney has supported the Glasgow side since he was a kid. So, it was special for Him to have made more than 150 appearances for the Hoops. The defender’s time in Glasgow has been highly productive. The 22-year-old Tierney has already won eight major honours. His medals tally is mighty impressive considering his age. However, winning a trophy at Arsenal will be a lot tougher than any he has won so far that is for sure. Tierney has also won PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year three years in a row.

Tierney is quite mature for his age. This is evident from the fact that he has already captained the Scotland national side. He has also captained Celtic. Celtic fans really loved him and are all very sad to see him leave.

How Will He Fare at His New Club?

Arsenal currently do not possess a top-quality left back. Neither Sead Kolašinac nor Nacho Monreal impressed last season. The Gunners needed a solid option on the left and they finally get one. Tierney definitely has the potential to make that spot his own for years to come. He is currently injured so will need to get back to training first.

Coming from the Scottish Premier League, adjusting to the physicality will not be a problem for him. Tierney can draw inspiration from the success of fellow Scot Andrew Robertson and Dutch center back Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool. They both used to play in the Scottish top flight and are now excelling in the English Premier League. He seems to have the right mindset to do well also. This is what former Scottish striker John Hartson had to say about the transfer.

Tierney’s ex-manager Brendan Rodgers also had high praise for him. Back in 2017, this is what he had to say about the young Scot

“I’ve worked with who I consider to be the two best full-backs in Britain: Danny Rose at Watford and Ryan Bertrand at Chelsea, ” said Rodgers. “Kieran is right up there with those boys. He’s still very young, still has bits of improvement to make but his quality, his will and determination and his focus for a young player is outstanding. This is a young player who can play in the top four of the Premier League if that’s where he wanted to go.

“He’s got an incredible determination, an old-school determination. He lives his life right, he doesn’t drink or do stupid things. He’s in every day training like a dog.”
