Tariqe Fosu Joins Oxford United From Charlton Athletic

Oxford United have completed the signing of Charlton Athletic winger Tariqe Fosu.

The 23-year-old arrives at the Kassam Stadium on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Fourth Summer Signing

Tariqe Fosu becomes Karl Robinson’s fourth signing of the summer after the U’s brought in Kevin Berkoe, Sam Allardyce and Alex Gorrin.

Unlike Berkoe and Allardyce, who will likely feature in the U23 side, Fosu should slot straight into the first team.

Fosu had been offered a new deal by the Addicks. However, the winger rejected the opportunity to play for the newly promoted Championship side.

Instead, the 23-year-old opted to reunite his relationship with former manager Robinson, the man who brought him to the Valley two seasons ago.

Oxford fought off interest from Rotherham United and Lincoln City respectively to sign the winger, according to Richard Cawley of the South London Press.

Life Before Oxford

Fosu began his career at Reading, but in a three-year spell, he only made one appearance.

He spent loan time at Fleetwood Town, Accrington Stanley and Colchester United before a permanent move to Charlton in 2017.

During his time with the Addicks, the winger, who can also play in an attacking midfield role, scored 11 goals in 57 appearances.

The winger’s best spell in South London came under Robinson, where he scored nine goals in his first season.

Where Will Fosu Fit In?

It is unknown where the 23-year-old will feature in Karl Robinson’s side. Given that Marcus Browne and Jordan Graham had finished their loan spells, he could play wide as a likely replacement.
That said, he could also feature in the number ten role behind the main striker.  This is a position James Henry, among others, have successfully achieved.
Oxford have also been linked with Motherwell midfielder Chris Cadden, who can also play centrally as well as in both wide positions. It’s likely that Cadden will follow Alex Gorrin south.
