Kenny Jackett Targets Ellis Harrison

Jackett Maintains Interest in Ipswich striker

The 25-year-old forward signed for Ipswich from Bristol Rovers last summer. Managed by then boss Paul Hurst, the Blues beat Pompey to the striker for a fee of £750,000.

Portsmouth have been long-time admirers of Harrison having held interest in the forward twice during the last twelve months.

The forward was a keen target for Jacket back in January as Pompey tried to sign Harrison on-loan on Deadline Day. But the South Coast side had to settle for James Vaughan on a temporary deal from Town’s Championship rivals Wigan Athletic instead.

Harrison is one of three senior forwards at Portman Road; however, Freddie Sears and Kayden Jackson all stand ahead of the forward this summer.

January recruits Will Keane and Collin Quaner pushed Harrison further down the pecking order. He ended the season with just one goal from seventeen appearances as injuries disrupted his playing time.

Ipswich and Portsmouth will be two of a number of teams battling for promotion from League One next term.

Pompey’s promotion bid was halted by Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals; meanwhile, Sunderland’s attempt fell at the final hurdle in a 2-1 defeat to Charlton at Wembley today.

With Freddie Sears ruled out until November (knee injury), Blues boss Paul Lambert is likely to bolster his attacking options.

The Blues are understood to be in pole position to sign prolific talisman James Norwood. The forward scored 32 goals this season as Tranmere Rovers won the League Two Play-Off final.

Meanwhile, free agent Will Keane has been released by Hull City. However, the 26-year-old’s injury record may seem him as too large a risk for a potential promotion campaign.
