Jonny Williams Leaves Crystal Palace For Charlton Athletic

Jonny Williams

Jonny Williams has left Crystal Palace and moved to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old midfielder has been with Palace since the age of eight.

The Kent-born player, who has played for Wales on the International stage, has only played one game for Palace this season. A win in the EFL cup against Swansea City back in August.

Williams has agreed a six-month deal at the Valley and will help to fill a void left when Nottingham Forest recalled Jamie Ward.

The Welsh International has had an unfortunate injury record whilst at Palace, but the move to Charlton gives Williams the game time he wants. Speaking about his new team-mates the midfielder said,

They are a good, talented bunch of players.

“I’m hopeful to add to that and I’m excited to work with them and hopefully get the club back into the Championship, which is the main aim.

Charlton Manager “Very happy”

Lee Bowyer, the manager of Charlton commented about their first signing of the January window. Bowyer said, “He’s good in possession, he’s clever, he works hard and he’s everything that I want from a midfield player.

The Addicks manager went on to add “He can play in different positions, so he’s versatile as well. He has the cleverness to see those little passes, so I’m very, very happy.”

Being a versatile player will bring a lot of opportunities to Williams for more match time, and the clear aim is to get The Addicks back into the Championship. With Charlton sitting currently fifth in League One and in the playoff positions, there is no doubt what the fans will be looking for.

Although not a prolific goal scorer, Williams will certainly bring good options in the midfield for The Addicks. Reaching the aim of getting back into the Championship, where they have not been since the 2015-2016 season gives the Welshman a target to achieve.
