Jason Puncheon Leaves Crystal Palace and Signs For Huddersfield

Jason Puncheon

Jason Puncheon has left Crystal Palace and signed a deal with Huddersfield. The 32-year-old winger missed the latter part of last season following a cruciate ligament injury.

Jason Puncheon Signs Deal With Huddersfield

The former Southampton player was loaned to Palace in the 2013/2014 season before making the move to Selhurst Park on a permanent basis. The winger had made 128 Premier League appearances up to the end of last season.

Having fallen out of favour with Roy Hodgson in recent times, Puncheon needed something new. He still wanted to play first-team football but was not getting the opportunity at Selhurst Park.

What Does This Mean For Puncheon?

Making the move from Crystal Palace to Huddersfield will give Puncheon more first-team playing time. Desperate to play having only made five starts this season, Puncheon took the chance to move to Huddersfield.

Moving away from Selhurst Park and London to the Kirklees Stadium will give Puncheon the game time he is searching for. Playing for the Terriers will more or less guarantee playing time for the rest of the season at the very least.

What Does This Mean For Huddersfield?

Bringing in the experienced Puncheon gives Huddersfield more options down the wings. Squad rotation will enable the 32-year-old to continue playing the game he loves. Huddersfield have gained an experienced Premier League winger by signing Puncheon from Palace.

Although Puncheon has not scored many goals lately, adding another experienced winger to their ranks helps David Wagner’s side to strengthen the squad for the rest of the season. The deal makes sense for both sides.

The deal is currently a loan until June 30th 2019.

David Wagner said of the move:

“I’m very happy that we are able to welcome Jason to Huddersfield Town.

“It is clear that we want to add quality and options to our midfield areas in this January transfer window and I’m sure many of our supporters know about Jason from his years playing in the Premier League.”
