Yerry Mina Completes Move to Everton

Despite a highly successful World Cup for the Colombian centre-back, where he scored three goals in four games and was the top scorer for his country, Yerry Mina’s place in the Barcelona squad was never assured. After a month-long transfer saga, Yerry Mina has finally left the Catalan giants to move to Everton for £30.25 million.

Everton Complete Signing of Yerry Mina

The 6’3″ defender has an impressive six goals in 15 games for his national team, a statistic that would be the envy of many strikers. Mina only moved to Barcelona from Brazilian side Palmeiras in January for £10.6 million but only managed five games in the league and one Copa del Rey appearance at the end of the season. The move marks a second transfer in the same calendar year for Mina.

Yerry Mina has the potential to be a leader in defence for the Toffees. Mina is generally a very vocal defender, he is also comfortable with using both feet as well as good with bringing the ball out from the back. At 6’3″, he also possesses good strength and, for someone his size, is a fairly athletic central defender who should add an aerial threat, at both ends, to Everton’s gameplay. He is the type of defender that manager Marco Silva could build his team around. Mina will pair up with former Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne, who signed for the Toffees earlier this summer.

If Mina can replicate his form from the World Cup and remain fit throughout the seasons, he could significantly increase Everton’s chances of a top six finish. His strength, height, and physicality will no doubt bolster Everton’s back line. Colombia were knocked out of the World Cup during the last sixteen phase so Mina could make his Premier League debut this weekend against Wolves.
