#AndNEW: Takashi Sugiura Becomes GHC National Champion

Takashi Sugiura GHC National Championship

Pro Wrestling NOAH’s (NOAH) newest championship is known as the GHC National Championship and has been active since 2019. This championship’s lineage started with Takashi Sugiura as the first-ever champion. Until recently, Kazuyuki Fujita was the champion. Sugiura and Fujita’s recent clash at NOAH The Glory 2021 was a battle of faction-mates that concluded with a new titleholder.

Kazuyuki Fujita would defeat Kenoh this past March to end the longest-reigning GHC National Championship reign. After the defeat of Kenoh, the first-ever champion, Takashi Sugiura, would set his sights on the championship that he lost a year ago. This was a championship match that focused on beer drinking. The two faction mates, Fujita and Sugiura, would face off the title at NOAH The Glory.

At NOAH The Glory. Takashi Sugiura would defeat Kazuyuki Fujita in an 18-minute bout. Fujita’s time with the GHC National Championship would mark the shortest reign thus far at 39 days. This would be the second time that Sugiura would hold this championship, with him being the inaugural champion. As of this writing, he is the only man to hold the title on multiple occasions.

The first challenger has already been set: his partner, Kazushi Sakuraba. Both men are former GHC Tag Team Champions and are set to face off against each other for the GHC National Championship. This match will happen at the Mitsuharu Misawa Memorial Show on May 30th.
