#AndNEW: Chris Adonis Wins NWA National Heavyweight Championship

Chris Adonis NWA National Heavyweight Championship

On this week’s episode of NWA Powerrr, Trevor Murdoch defended the NWA National Heavyweight Championship against Chris Adonis, perhaps better known to long-time WWE fans as Chris Masters. Up until this match, Murdoch held the title for 183 days, defeating Aron Stevens last year on episode three of UWN Primetime Live to start his reign. Since then, Murdoch had two successful defenses, one against Jeremy Wyatt this past February and one against Adonis earlier this month at NWA Back for the Attack. Unfortunately, lightning didn’t strike twice for “The Outlaw,” as it was “The Masterpiece” who walked away with gold in this possession.

It’s important to note that Chris Adonis has only been in the NWA for a short period of time. His debut took place at the aforementioned Back for the Attack event, the organization’s return pay-per-view. On the following episode of NWA Powerrr, he teamed with Thom Latimer and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis of Strictly Business in a winning effort against Stevens, JR Kratos, and Da Pope. It would seem as though “The Masterpiece” had built considerable momentum for himself. This came to a head on this week’s edition of NWA Powerrr.

Interrupting a promo by Aldis, Murdoch challenged the NWA worlds heavyweight champion to a No Disqualification match. As Murdoch had his sights set on the top star in the NWA, he was attacked from behind by Adonis. The attack was so severe that Murdoch had to be helped to the back by NWA officials. Later in the show, it was confirmed that Murdoch would defend the National Heavyweight Championship against Adonis. This match replaced the previously scheduled main event, which would have seen Da Pope defend the NWA Television Championship against Fred Rosser.

Trevor Murdoch stepped into the squared circle for his NWA National Heavyweight Championship defense against Chris Adonis in a neck brace. Despite the pain he was in, as well as his obvious physical disadvantage, Murdoch soldiered on as a fighting champion. However, despite his best efforts, he was ultimately no match for a game Adonis. The challenger trapped the champion in The Masterlock, a submission maneuver that had put away many opponents over the years. Murdoch passed out in the hold, giving the referee no other option but to call for the bell. By the end, it was Adonis that stood tall as the new national heavyweight champion.

This marks the first-ever NWA National Heavyweight Championship reign of Chris Adonis, as well as his first title victory in the NWA in general. The question remains: who will step up to challenge Adonis? It should go without saying that, neck injuries or not, Murdoch will be looking to regain his title. However, with a roster full of hungry competitors, it’s safe to say that “The Masterpiece” won’t be short on new opponents moving forward.
