For the past year, Chad Gable performed across WWE and AAA as El Grande Americano. Initially, a joke character designed to disrespect luchadores and Lucha Libre, he had to become serious when Ludwig Kaiser took over the character when he was injured.
Countless battles ensued over the past few months, with the final feud taking place at Noche de Los Grandes last month. In the mask vs. mask battle, Kaiser won, leaving him to be the only El Grande Americano and for Gable to go back to his old character.
On the June 8, 2026 episode of Monday Night Raw, he returned to help Penta after Rey Mysterio got unmasked by Ethan Page and Rusev. The following week, he participated in his first match back against Rusev. He won, but was attacked by both men. Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee, who assisted him last week, had his back. An alliance of those three men can help him both inside and outside the ring.
Chad Gable Can Ensure That His Promises Are Kept
The reason why Gable embarked on a journey as El Grande Americano in the first place is that he didn’t respect Lucha Libre. But after going to AAA, wrestling as El Grande Americano, and losing to his impostor, he now has a much deeper level of respect for what luchadores do in the ring.
He has so much respect that he’s spent the last two weeks apologizing to various luchadores for his behavior. Showing up last week was the first step in getting them to trust him.
On Monday, Lee and Mysterio defended him against Page and Rusev, making it clear that they have the same feelings towards him. They could’ve easily dismissed his claims of change as trying to ally to possibly get back at Kaiser’s Americano. But they seem to think that he actually has turned a corner in his thoughts on Lucha Libre. An alliance between the three can finally complete his story arc as El Grande Americano.
He Can Get More AAA Opportunities if He is Impactful
Chad Gable could’ve picked any luchador on the roster to help. He could’ve been in the corner of Axiom, Penta or Rey Fenix. When he gets back from injury, Elio LeFleur could’ve used a helper. But he chose to help Rey Mysterio, a legend in the Lucha Libre community.
His inspiring career was a huge reason why he was chosen to be the new AAA General Manager a few weeks ago. Even though he has more responsibilities, he still wrestles as an active competitor on Raw.
Gable stepping up shows that he, too, respects what he’s done. Along with Lee, he can show him his offensive abilities in the ring. That will allow both men to get AAA opportunities as a reward, potentially. Both of them have a ton of history with the company, and teaming with the General Manager can be an opportunity to extend that history. By keeping Mysterio safe and away from harm, Gable has a way to get back to AAA in a quick manner.
The Trio Could Be Very Impactful in the Ring
Gable couldn’t have picked two better luchadores to align with than Lee and Mysterio. Even though he is relatively new to WWE, Lee has been in the Lucha scene for decades. He had runs in both AAA and CMLL, along with extended stays in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor.
At the same time, Mysterio’s legacy speaks for itself with tons of championship wins across different promotions. Both of them know how important Lucha Libre is, which is why they’re the perfect example for him.
He has a chance not only to show that he cares about Lucha Libre but also to impress Mysterio to get new AAA opportunities. Likely, AAA and another storyline with Americano weren’t on his mind, and he was trying to defend one of the greatest luchadores ever. By forming this exciting trio with Lee and Mysterio, Gable can be respected by the luchadores and be better positioned for more opportunities to come his way.
