Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talents working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! In this edition, we take a look at “The Real Mean Girl” of the independent scene. Armed with her “Burn Book,” let’s dive into the wrestling endeavors of Dani Jordyn.
At first glance, Dani Jordyn is the amalgamation of every high school bully one would meet in their life. Equal parts arrogant and mean-spirited, “The Real Mean Girl” lives up to her name. When she isn’t talking smack to a wrestler’s face, she’s more than willing to immortalize them in her “Burn Book.” Jordyn isn’t shy to back up her boastful claims, however, as she has proven in her young yet promising career.
The Inspiration of Dani Jordyn
While Dani Jordyn is most known for her wrestling exploits, she aspired to be an actress growing up. This led to multiple roles in film, including as an extra in the 2017 reboot of “Baywatch,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This experience, along with the blossoming Women’s Revolution in WWE, inspired Jordyn to pursue wrestling as a career path. She started training at the World Wrestling Academy 4 in Georgia, her home state. As a trainee, she learned under AR Fox and QT Marshall.
Jordyn started wrestling professionally in late 2017, including a six-person tag team where she, along with Kavron Kanyon and Adrian Alanis, bested Fox, Tommy Maserati, and David Ali. 2018 marked Jordyn’s full first year in wrestling. In addition to WWA4, she worked other events in the state for Georgia Premier Wrestling and ACTION Wrestling. She achieved her first singles victory in October, defeating Rockelle Vaughn in a Lumberjill Match for Berwyn Championship Wrestling. By the end of 2018, Jordyn started working for Southern Honor Wrestling. Around the same time, her “Real Mean Girl” persona, inspired by the 2004 film “Mean Girls,” started to take form.
Dani Jordyn’s Blooming Success
In 2019, Jordyn saw success in SHW and elsewhere. In ACTION Wrestling, she picked up victories over Allie Kat and Ruthless Lala in February and March, respectively. Meanwhile, in SHW, she formed a team with fellow WWA4 alumnus Ali; together, they became known as The New ERA. This group proved to be a thorn in the collective side of SHW, picking up victories over the likes of Lindsay Snow and former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Tommy Dreamer. In addition to debuting for Queens of Combat in August, Jordyn made her first All Elite Wrestling appearance on the November 13th episode of Dynamite. In her first AEW match, “The Real Mean Girl” fell to Nyla Rose. December saw Jordyn make her NWA debut for The Circle Squared, which features independent talent from around the world. Though Jordyn fell to Freya the Slaya, “The Real Mean Girl’s” pre-match promo impressed fans and wrestlers alike.
2020 marked additional AEW appearances, though Jordyn remained active on the independent scene as well. Case and point, in February, she competed in the QOC Queen’s Ransom Tournament. Jordyn bested Snow in the first round but fell to KiLynn King in the semifinals. The following May, Jordyn wrestled her first AEW Dark match, falling to Kris Statlander. From there, Jordyn made other appearances on the program. She challenged the likes of Big Swole and current AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida.
What’s Next for Dani Jordyn?
Though Dani Jordyn has only been wrestling for a few years, the sky is the limit for “The Real Mean Girl” of professional wrestling. Her AEW Dark appearances have introduced her to a broader audience. Wrestling fans that were previously unfamiliar with her work are now exposed to the punishment she deals, verbally or otherwise. Whether in AEW or across the independent wrestling scene, expect wrestlers to be personally victimized by Jordyn in the future.
